Newport Skates, JC
Head over to Newport Center in Jersey City to strap on your skates and hit the ice at Newport Skates! This beautiful outdoor rink is open through February 18 and offers skate rentals, group and private skating lessons, and season passes.

Learn to Ski
Campgaw Mountain, Mahwah, NJ
First-timer or new to the winter sports experience? You can learn just an hour from home at Campgaw Mountain in Mahwah, NJ. This small mountain is perfect for beginners, with lessons for all ages starting around $40. There’s a great snow tubing course, too.

Mountain Creek Resort: Vernon, NJ
Just 47 miles from NYC, Mountain Creek is a world of blissful outdoor recreation. There are over 160 skiable acres and over 1,000 vertical feet across four connected peaks. During the off-season, there are also 50+ mountain biking trails, 10+ Treescape Aerial Adventure Park courses, and 27 holes of golf.

Shawnee Mountain: East Stroudsburg, PA
Just about an hour from Bayonne, Shawnee is perfect for groups with varied skill levels, thanks to its variety of trails and its learn-to-ski programs. There are several learning packages, as well as some great Ski & Stay promotions throughout the year.

Camelback Mountain: Tannersville, PA
Located in the breathtaking Poconos Mountains just about 1.5 hours from Bayonne, Tannersville is the largest ski resort in the area. It’s got 16 chair lifts and just launched an after-dark snowtubing experience that includes an LED light show.

Thunder Ridge: Patterson, NY
This smaller and slower-paced mountain is great for beginners and is located about two hours from Bayonne. It offers reasonable prices, especially for season tickets, and runs some fun activities and events, like Wine & Women Wednesdays.
Hunter Mountain: Hunter, NY
Okay, this one’s a little outside of two hours (2.5 to be more accurate), but it’s worth the extra bit of driving. This Catskills-area resort is pretty spectacular! There’s a full-service spa, the largest snow tubing park in New York, a kids’ mini-tubing park, a snack bar, and more. There are also classes for all skill levels (not just beginners), plus unique activities like yoga.

Cross Country Skiing
Mountain Trails: Tannersville, NY
Just a little over 2 hours from Bayonne, Mountain Trails prides itself on being the “best-kept secret in the Catskills”! It offers 35 kilometers of scenic nature trails through hundreds of acres of pristine forest. Trails are marked by degree of difficulty and all are patrolled by the National Ski Patrol. There’s also a Sales and Rental shop, as well as ski lessons.
