Animal Aid USA is a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to the rescue and relocation of unwanted, abused, and abandoned animals. The organization works to transport pets from high-kill shelters in Georgia to rescues and homes in New Jersey, and it’s my great privilege and pleasure to be able to participate in five or six of these Animal Rescue Caravans every year.
The Journey of the Animal Aid USA Rescue Caravan
Each month, volunteers with Animal Aid USA drive more than 1,600 miles from New Jersey to Georgia and back again to transport animals from dire situations to loving homes. An average of 300 lives are saved during each trip of the Animal Rescue Caravan!
Spreading awareness across the nation
In addition to the active rescue and transit of animals, Animal Aid USA also works to spread awareness of the various forms of animal cruelty that happen across the country, each and every day. That includes puppy mills, the gas chamber, and heart stick euthanasia, just to name a few.
Raising money for resources
Part of the reason stray, homeless, and unwanted pets are such a problem in the south is that many low income communities do not have the resources, or at times, even the awareness, for spay and neuter programs. Animal Aid USA raises money to fund programs in such communities to help reduce their number of stray pets.
March 2020 Animal Rescue Caravan
In early March 2020, yet another caravan set off to Georgia, and I was pleased to be part of the rescue mission. We drove 899 miles—17 hours—each way, but it was more than worth the journey! We even rescued our 30,000th pup, Blondie (AKA Izzy).
The tiny house village ribbon cutting
This caravan journey also saw the realization of a long-time dream of the Animal Aid—the opening of a tiny homes village and courtyard! This is now our home-away-from-home spot to come together to relax, reflect, and enjoy good company. This past journey was also the maiden voyage of our new rig! All in all, it was a pretty successful trip.

Want to Become Part of a Fantastic Community?
One of the things I’ve learned from living in Port Liberte and Bayonne is that a community is only as good as the people who serve it. And the Gold Coast has a lot of truly amazing folks working to make it a little better, each and every day.
