The weather is (slowly) starting to cool down, the leaves are getting ready to shift colors, and Halloween is right around the corner. For kids, it’s one of the most magical times of the year. After all, how many other times can you pretend to be a super hero, a princess, or anything in between and fill up bags upon bags of free candy?
Over the past four years, I’ve made it my goal to make sure as many kids in the area as possible get to enjoy Halloween. That’s why I started the Halloween Costume Drive! If you have any gently used or new costumes to give away, here are all of the details.
About the Cause
In the past four years, the Halloween Costume Drive has grown to become incredibly successful. Last year, we were lucky enough to collect 368 costumes!
Every year, we take the new and nearly new costumes we’re given and pass them out to boys and girls of all ages at local homeless and at-risk shelters, as well as social service outreach agencies. It’s a small way of trying to provide every child in the area with the chance to enjoy the holiday, and we’ve been blessed by the generosity and support of the community!
This year, I’ve already gotten costume requests from Turning Point Community Services, United Community Services, Apostles’ House, and HIGHWAYS—and as Halloween gets closer, I anticipate there will be more.
How to Donate
If you have a new or gently used Halloween costumes that you’d be willing to donate, I’d love to take them off your hands! Since these children have been through a lot of hardship in their short lives, we want to ensure that the costume are appropriate in tone, as well.
Any complete costume donations can be dropped off several locations, including:
- Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty, 306 Washington Street, Hoboken
- The Liberty Board of Realtors, Secaucus
- Sacred Heart of Jesus ANCC 380 Kearny Ave, Kearny
- Port Liberte HOA office
The deadline for collection is October 24th, and if you’d like more info, don’t hesitate to give me, Paul Gulya, a call at 201-838-8560.
